Brother Ben Gadson, Jr. was born to the late Ben Gadson, Sr. and Eloise Myers on February 5, 1932 on St. Helena Island, SC. He was affectionately known as "Junior" by his family and friends.

"Junior" attended the Towne McDonald School on St. Helena Island, SC. His life's passion was fishing. He was a commercial fisherman, employed by the late Robin Sanders for several years, and during this time they became good friends. "Captain Junior" fished for many years on his boats "Amelia Isle" and "The Sea Tracker". "Junior" also enjoyed farming and hunting. He as a very loving, kind and friendly person. He especially enjoyed talking and reminiscing about his dear mother. he was an active member of Ebenezer Baptist Church on St. Helena Island, South Carolina.

Brother Ben "Junior" Gadson, jr. fought a courageous battle until at 11:15 a.m. on Monday morning, February 20, 2012, God gently closed his eyes and whispered "Peace Be Still...Peace Be Still". He was preceded in death by his parents Ben and Eloise Gadson; two brothers, Frank and Thomas Gadson; three sisters, Evelena Green, Estelle Jenkins and Hattie Bell Miller; and one grandson.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories his loving wife, Sarah B. Gadson; seven sons, Willie J. Gadson, Gilbert L. (Valerie) Gadson, Med H. Gadson, Ben Haynes and Anthony Byas, all of St. Helena Island, SC, Stanley Gadson of Port Royal, SC, and Edward Gadson of Stockbridge, GA; eight daughters, Delores (Rollin) Thomas and Tanisha Byas, both of St. Helena Island, SC, Sandra Parker-Smalls of Port Royal, SC, Lula B. (Larry) Thompson of Stockbridge, GA, Rachelle (David) Washington of Columbus, GA, Fransetta L. Gadson of Sumter, SC, Verleen Hamilton of Beaufort, SC, and Willie B. (Benjamin) Garvin of Suffolk, VA; 31 grandchildren, 34 great-children; three sisters, Eloise (Melvin) White of Tennessee, Lillie Mae Spriggs of Boston, MA, Essie Mae Legree of St. Helena Island, SC; five sisters-in-law, Lucile Pope, Christena Wilson, Annie Gaither, Beverly Brown and Geraldine Brown, all of St. Helena Island, SC; three brothers-in-law, Harry Brown, Herman Brown and Robert Pope of St. Helena, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and close friends.

Funeral services for Brother Ben Gadson, Sr. were held 11 a.m., Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Ebenezer Baptist Church, St. Helena Island, SC. Burial was in Cedar Grove Cemetery, St. Helena Island, SC. Arrangements were by Allen Funeral Home of Beaufort.
