Ernest Hubert Greene, Sr. was born on February 26, 1914 to Rella Greene and Mose Greene in Seabrook, South Carolina, both of who preceded him in death. He was the sixth of seven sons. His six brothers, Joseph, Samuel, Alex, Edward, Johnnie, and Willie Greene all preceded him in death. He also had seven sisters to precede him in death, Clara, Emma, Ella Ida, Lillian, Janie and Daisy.

He as united in Holy Matrimony on December 21, 1942 to Rainey Victoria (Lou) Greene, who preceded him in death. The couple was blessed with four children, Ernest Hubert Greene, Jr. (Alma C.) Hartense Ernestine Greene-Jones and Cordelia Denise Greene-Lopez; one son, Edward Jerome Greene, and one daughter who preceded him in death, Willie Green.

Ernest H. Greene, Sr. accepted Christ at an early age and attended Allen AME Church in Grays Hill, SC. He finished Shanklin School in Seabrook, SC with high honors. After finishing high school, he moved to Savannayh, GA, where he joined St. Philip AME Church. He was an active member for many years. He served as class leader, sang in the choir, and was on the deacon board.
After serving in World War II Ernest went on the graduate from Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, AL.

Ernest Hubert, Sr. was fondly known as "Uncle Hubert", and he reminded all family members of the importance of a good education; as a result, many of his family members are graduates of Tuskegee University.

On Friday, March 2, 2012 Mr. Ernest Hubert Greene, Sr. entered into peaceful, eternal rest at the August VA Medical Center in August, GA.

Mr. Ernest Hubert Greene, Sr. Leaves to cherish loving memories: one son, Ernest H. Greene, Jr. (Alma C.); two daughters, Hartense E. Greene-Jones and Cordelia Denise Greene-Lopez; two sisters, Mary Wright of Tuskegee, AL and Martha Watson of Seabrook, SC; eighteen grandchildren; many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends who cared about him.

Funeral services for Mr. Ernest Greene, Sr. were held at noon on Friday, March 30, 2012 at Allen Funeral Chapel, 1508 Duke St., Beaufort, SC. Burial with military honors was in Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, SC. Arrangements by Allen Funeral Home of Beaufort.
