Ms. Bessie Fields Edwards, the daughter of the late Frank and Thelma Fields, was born on September 26, 1940 in Levy, SC. She attended the public schools of Hardeeville, SC.
She was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Clarence Edwards, Sr. of Pritchardville, SC. Early in marriage, they moved to Bayonne, NJ and joined New Zion Baptist Church, serving on the Usher Board. In 1991, she moved back home and joined Proctor Hill Baptist Church and served faithfully on the Usher Board until her health failed. Ms. Edwards was employed at Resort Service Incorporated (RSI) of Bluffton, SC for over 10 years.
She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend; never falling short of fulfilling her responsibilities to her family and those whom she could help.
Bessie entered eternal rest on Sunday, January 27, 2013 at the Life Care Center in Hilton Head Island, SC. She was preceded in death by six brothers and eight sisters.
She leaves to cherish fond memories of her life and times: two daughters, Cheryl Fields of Bayonne, NJ and Samantha Fields of Bluffton, SC; four sons, Clarence Edwards, Jr., Donald (Marci) Edwards, and Rondi Edwards all of Bayonne, NJ, and Dave (Sabra) Edwards of Minnesota; siblings, Ada Bright, Agnes Chisolm and Georgianna Jones; one sister-in-law, Ernestine Fields; one brother-in-law, Richard Lee Levant; fifteen grandchildren; three great grandsons; a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Wake service was Friday February 1, from 7-8 At Proctor Hill Baptist Church Pritchardville, SC Funeral Service was Saturday 11am at the church. Allen Funeral Home of Ridgeland is in charge of Arrangements.
