Mr. William W. "Junior" Grant, Jr. was born on October 6, 1933 to the late Elder W. W. Grant, Sr. and Mattie Badger Grant in Tattnall County Georgia.
He attended the public schools of Beaufort, South Carolina and pursued further education at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and Tuskegee Institute, Tuskegee, AL. From 1974-1975, while attending Tuskegee Institute on a Ford Foundation Fellowship, he served as an Administrative Assistant to the Honorable Johnny Ford, Mayor of Tuskegee, AL. He served as a troubleshooter and liaison for all interdepartmental problems, wrote the program, and developed the Human Relations Department for the City of Tuskegee. Continuing his fellowship until 1976, Mr. Grant served as Administrative Assistant to the Honorable Howard Lee, Mayor of Chapel Hill, NC.
He served in the United States Army from 1952-1956 and achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class.  He was wounded in the Korean conflict and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal.
He co-founded and was first Board Chairman of the Beaufort-Jasper Comprehensive Health Services. In 1972 he also organized and developed the first center for developmentally disabled children in the Lowcountry, named the James M. Waddell Center. He co-developed the W. W. Grant, Jr. Adult Activity Center for Developmentally Disabled Adults.
Mr. Grant became actively involved in politics as a respected civil rights leader and local politician from 1974-1980. He also served as the interim Executive Director of Beaufort Jasper Economic Opportunity Commission from 1977-1978. In 1983, Mr. Grant became the Director of the Beaufort County Department of Veteran Affairs.  He retired after twelve years of dedicated service.
William W. Grant, Jr. was a faithful member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church. He worked diligently with the Food Ministry and enjoyed making chili for the live nativity scene during the Christmas holiday, frying fish for the annual family day picnic, and barbecuing pigs' feet for watch night services.
Mr. Grant received honors and awards from organizations such as: Who's Who in America; 1975-1978, Beaufort County Association for Retarded Citizens-Man of the Year, 1980; Beaufort County Memorial Day Committee-Man of the Year, 1978; American Association for Affirmative Action Silver Medal Award, Region Four, 1978; and Beaufort County Board of Education Citizens Award, 1978.
He was joined in Holy Matrimony to Jonnie M. White on October 5, 1984.
On Saturday, August 31, 2013 Mr. William W. Grant, Jr. entered eternal rest at his residence in Beaufort, SC. In addition to his parents, eight siblings preceded him in death.

Foy, Blair, SC:devoted uncle and devoted aunt; Peter Brown of Beaufort, SC; Geneva Mitchell of St. Helena Island, SC: two brothers; Rufus (Suzanne) Grant, Augusta, GA; Harry Grant, Dale, SC: four sisters; Essie (Moses) Lewis, Sylvania, GA; Helen Delardge; Ruth Grant; Martha Blair, Dale, SC;one brother-in-law: Willie (Vanessa) Brown, Hampton, VA:  four sisters-in-law: Eartha "Tiny" Grant Dale, SC; Caroline Grant, Lobeco, SC; Ruby Smith, Philadelphia, PA; Melvina Parker, Savannah, GA; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild; devoted friend and Best Man Deacon John Evans, Beaufort, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Special family members and friends include Trent (Sharon) Gould, Savannah, GA; Albert Shuman, Savannah, GA; Tiffany Lothery (son Tayvon), Beaufort, SC; and Jackie Green, St. Helena Island, SC; along with a host of other loving relatives and friends.

 Funeral service at 6 p.m. on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 911 Craven St., Beaufort. There will be no viewing after the eulogy.  Burial in Beaufort National Cemetery on Friday, September 6 at 10am, followed by a repast at the church. Arrangements by Allen Funeral Home of Beaufort.
