Mrs. Vernell Marion Chisolm Kelly, the eldest daughter of the late Jannie Heyward of Dale, SC and Nathaniel Anthony, Sr. of New York, was born in Dale, SC on September 15, 1938.
At an early age Vernell accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Saviour, and was a member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Dale, SC.  She received her education in the public schools of Beaufort, SC, graduating from Robert Smalls High School in 1957.
Shortly after graduating high school, Vernell relocated to New York, seeking better job opportunies.  She lived in New York for a number of years.  She and her first husband Jessie Chisolm were self-employed, and were blessed with three children.
Upon her return to Dale in 1969 Vernell met, and was eventually joined in holy matrimony to Mr. Eckeron Kelly.
After returning to the Beaufort area,  Vernell obtained employment with Beaufort Memorial Hospital, where she worked for 15 years, until her health began to fail.
On Tuesday, May 6, 2014, Vernell slipped peacefully into eternal rest at her home in Dale, SC.  She was preceded in death by two sons, Randy Chisolm and Terry Chisolm Segar.
She leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memory: her husband, Eckeron Kelly of Dale, SC; a daughter, Carolyn (Kenneth) Washington of New Jersey; four granddaughters, Nowell and Brittney Segar of Atlanta, GA, and Lacie and Demi Chisolm of New Jersey; a son-in-law, Jerome Segar of Atlanta, GA; one great grandson, Elijah Newberry of Atlanta, GA; two sisters, Elizabeth (Minister Johnny) Hanna of Dale, SC, and Marian Doctor of New York; one brother, Barry Anthony of New York; one sister-in-law, Richardine Anthony of Atlanta, GA; one aunt, Loraine Simmons; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
