Mother Mae Etta Garvin Green was born in Grays, SC on June 11, 1915.  She was the 14th child of the late Silas and Florence Garvin. She spent most of her life in Grays, SC and was educated at the Mather School of Beaufort, SC, where she was recently honored as one of the oldest living members.  

    Mae Etta Garvin was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late James Green Sr. At an early age, she joined Rock Spring Baptist Church in 1940.  As a member of Rock Spring, she has served as Secretary for 30 years; President of the Senior Choir; Superintendent of Sunday School; member and Secretary of Sunday School Convention for 30 years; Member of the Missionary Board and Rock Spring Association for 30 years; and elected as Church Mother.

    By family and friends she was deemed “Best Biscuit Maker”. For over two decades Mother Green oversaw the summer lunch program responsible for feeding many children in the community.  She enjoyed sewing, and was employed at Estill Sewing Manufactory in Ridgeland, SC.  She was a member of the Coosawhatchie Senior Citizens and among other hobbies, she was an avid quilter, baker, and farmer.     

    Mother Mae Etta Green entered into eternal rest on October 29, 2014 at her residence, with family at her side.  She leaves to cherish her memory four children, Timothy Green, James (Gwendolyn) Green, Jr., Rose Mae Grant all of Ridgeland, SC and Deloris (Thaddeus) Shaw of Early Branch, SC; one granddaughter that was reared in the home Jennifer Green Joyner of Ridgeland, SC; 14 grandchildren, 25 great grand children and 8 great-great grand children. She also leaves behind a host of nephews, nieces, cousins other loving relatives, friends and spiritual church family members. 

 

Mother Mae Etta Garvin Green Funeral Service was held at 1:00pm on Sunday November 2,2014 at Rock Spring Baptist Chruch Grays SC, and Visitation was held from 5:00-7:00pm on Saturday November1,2014 at Allen Funeral Home Complex Ridgeland SC,.
