Music by The Piano Brothers

Marion Given was born November 8, 1935 in Savannah, GA to Frank Sr. and Rhina Givens. His childhood was spent with his grandmother Rebecca Graham (Maw Beck) Young. Marion also spent time with his aunts and uncles who raised him alongside their own children. To help his grandmother out, young Marion quit school to take on a job. As Marion grew, he always read books of knowledge and always encouraged young people to stay in school to get a good education. “That Knowledge is Power”. People would always say that they could just listen to Mr. Marion all day long because he had acquired so much knowledge throughout the years. After serving, his country in the military, young Marion married his childhood sweetheart Ella Mae Rutledge. They relocated back to Savannah, GA and there they raised three handsome sons. Wanting more for his family, Marion and Mae moved to New York. After moving to New York they finally was blessed with two daughters (The Sisters he said he never had). He now felt his family was complete. While in New York,     Marion worked as a tailor in downtown New York garment industry. Finally, the crowded streets of New York was getting too much for Marion, so he came home one night told Mae “Pack up the children and things, we are going home.” Once settling in South Carolina, it did not take Marion long to find a job. To provide for his family, Marion started working at Parker White DIE Casting Company, where he was a Punch and Drill Press foreman. Once the plant closed, Marion was able to gain employment at Carsonite Signs in Varnville, SC where he later retired. But, after a short retirement, Marion realized retirement was not for him, so he gained employment on Parris Island.
Unfortunately, once Marion’s health started to decline, he had to retired yet again. Only to take on a less demanding job to spend time with his family, church and friends. Marion always felt a void once the love of his life went home to be with the Lord. So finally, on March 4, 2016, God saw fit to unite them again. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his brother Solomon Givens and one grandson, Wilbur Jamison Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memories three sons; Sinclair (Patricia) Givens Sr. of Covington, GA, Marion Given Jr (aka Hucka Buck) of Walterboro, SC and Joe Hannesburg (Cynthia) Givens of Yemassee, SC; two daughters, Sophia Givens-Williams of Yemassee, SC and Earlise (Wilbur Sr.) Jamison of Islandton, SC; two  brothers, Frank (Elizabeth) Givens Sr. of Hackensack, NJ and Brenard (Linda) Veggacardo; two aunts, Beatrice Givens of Charleston, SC and Helen Blessinger of Long Island, NJ; six sisters in law, Cora Cradle, Bertha Ruthledge both of Brooklyn, NY, Jeanette Williams,  Dianne Rutledge and Patricia Rutledge all of Savannah, GA and Betty Jackson-Givens of New York City, NY; twelve grand children; sixteen great grand children and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and caring friends.
