Ruben Gadson, Jr. was born June 25, 1937 to the late Deacon Ruben Gadson, Sr. and Alice Gadson, in Bluffton, South Carolina. 

He attended the public schools in Beaufort County. He was a member of St. John Baptist Church in Bluffton for many years; he later joined Campbell Chapel A.M.E. Church in March of 2018.

Ruben was joined in holy matrimony to Mrs. Annie Mae Bennett - Gadson for more than 60 years.

Upon completing high school he entered the work force, He worked at Sea Pines Golf Course and Maintenance, Shoney’s Restaurant, he also worked at Food Lion in Kitties Crossing for several years. His most recent employment was Moss Creek Golf Course for 16 years, he work for as long as his health permitted.

Ruben would often share memories of his father and how he instilled good work ethics in him and his siblings; he often talked about working before and after school.

Ruben liked WWE Wrestling, he would take his son Kenneth and his friends to Savannah, Ga. to the Civic Center to Wrestling matches, but most recently he watched WWE Smack down every Monday night on channel 447, he knew all the wrestlers by name.

Ruben transitioned on Wednesday morning, April 4, 2018 in Bluffton, SC at his home surrounded by his wife, Annie Mae; daughter, Gladys; grandson, Barry along with other relatives. Ruben was preceded in death by his parents, Deacon Ruben, Sr. and Alice Gadson; his son, Kenneth Gadson; siblings, Mrs. Agnes G. Cook, Mr. Charles E. Gadson, Mr. Arthur Gadson and Mr. Rufus Gadson; brother in law, Harold Johnson; sister in law, Margie Green.

Ruben leaves to cherish his memories and life legacy his wife Mrs. Annie Mae Bennett - Gadson; his children, Gladys Gadson- Pringle (Nathaniel), Doris Gregory (Levi), Deborah Pinckney all of Bluffton, SC, Latoya Williams of Savannah, GA, Ruben Gadson, III (Tijardara) of Orlando, FL; grandchildren, Derrick Pinckney (Raylin), Barry S. Chaplin (Erika), Kenneth Campbell, Philippa Pinckney, Deidre Pinckney all of Bluffton, SC, Allison R. Chaplin of Seattle, Washington,  Jasmine Noel Pringle of Bluffton, SC, Ne’osha Williams, Ke’Wannis Williams, Jason Williams, Jamiran Williams, Jamei Williams, Naiiah Williams all of Savannah, GA, Xavion Gadson, Aaminir Gadson and Ahkil Gadson all of Orlando FL; 22 great grandchildren and 2 great great grands; one sister Ophelia Elliott- Acree of  Manhattan, NY, brothers in law, Sam Green, Joseph Green (Chantel), Henry Green (Demetria) all of Bluffton, SC; sisters in law, Janette Aiken (Louis) of Ridgeland, SC, Katie Givens (Edward), Phyllis Johnson, Shirley Menefee, Elizabeth Lovell and Valerise Johnson all of Bluffton, SC; also a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
