Samuel “Sammie” Washington’s journey starts in the historic Fripp Point community on St. Helena Island South Carolina, born on May 23, 1955, the son of Victoria Washington and the late Jessie “Pickey” Holmes and considered as a Mother, his beloved Aunt Elizabeth Singleton.
He was a graduate of the Beaufort High School class of 1973. Samuel was joined in Holy Matrimony to Vera Mae Washington on May 23, 1986 this union was blessed with love.
He was a special man, sacrificing his safety, comfort and freedom, serving his country proudly and honorably in the United States Marine Corps for four years. Samuel was employed in the field of Road Construction for 15 years at Genesis Construction Company of Beaufort, South Carolina and as a Dock worker for Steadfast Marine Construction of Beaufort, South Carolina for 15 years. He was a valued team member of both companies. He was also employed as a landscaper for Ms. Charlotte Howard until he was faced with a courageous battle with illness.
Samuel touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity, and maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way to the end. He was able to get along with everyone he met.
Samuel quietly departed this life in the NHC Health Care facility in Charleston, South Carolina. He was preceded in death by his wife Vera Mae Washington.
Samuel “Sammie” Washington will not be forgotten and will be missed until they meet again by; his mother, Victoria Washington; his siblings, Mary Lou (Solomon) Holmes of St. Helena Island, John Lee “Cubby “Washington of Daytona Beach, Florida, Josephus “Bruce” (Vivian) Washington, Barbara Ann Washington and Edward (Rumelle) Washington all of St. Helena Island, South Carolina; close knit family members, Margie Smalls, Geraldine Hamilton, Evelyn (Edward) Green, Harold (Cena) Middleton, Thomas (Florence) Middleton; other very special family member, Washington Jenkins; special in laws, Deloris Scriven (Sherman) of Green Pond, South Carolina, Benjamin, Gregory, Steve, David (Brenda) Garrett of Walterboro, South Carolina, Harold Lee (Lashonda) of New York, two other sisters in law of Walterboro Laverne Garrett and Gail Simmons of Savannah, Georgia; a host of siblings, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles and a nephew in law.
